actiLib Kodiak 3416
Medium sized LTO-Tape-Library
up to 48 Tape Drive Modules and up to 640 LTO-Slots

Note: actiLib Kodiak 3416 is fully compatible to actiLib Kodiak 3407, jedoch scalable with up to 15 additional expansion modules!

Configuration of actiLib Kodiak 3416 Tape Library

The Basic Module (BTL) of the actiLib Kodiak 3416 is first of all a powerful LTO tape library in 3U Rackmount design, equipped with 40 LTO slots in two magazines. The Basic Module (BTL) must be equipped with at least one, maximum of three LTO tape drive modules. In order to expand the basic module, up to six expansion modules (ETL) can then be connected, which can be equipped with or without further LTO drives.

Configuration of the Basic Module (BTL)
Automation robotics are controlled by the first built-in LTO drive, so no additional connection has to be scheduled for this. The choice of LTO drives and their number will determine the configuration of the actiLib Tape Library.

Decisions to configurate the actiLib Kodiak 3416 Basic Module (BTL):

  • Number of LTO Tape Drive Modules:
Based on requirements related to capacity and compatibilty the numbers of LTO Tape Drive Modules need to be decided.
  • Available LTO Technology Generations:
    LTO-7, LTO-8, LTO-9
  • Available LTO Tape Drive Interface:
For connection to available server or storage networks the following interfaces are available:
    - SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) for direct attachment to the server (DAS - Direct-Attached-Storage)
    - FC (FibreChannel) for connection to an existing storage network architecture (SAN - Storage-Area-Network)

Configuration of the Extension Module (ETL)
The Expansion Module (ETL is fully controlled via the first drive installed in the Basic Module (BTL) as well as managed by the Control Unit / Front Panel of the Basic Module (BTL).

Decisions to configurate the actiLib Kodiak 3407 Extension Module (ETL):

  • Number of LTO Tape Drive Modules:
Based on requirements related to capacity and compatibilty the numbers of LTO Tape Drive Modules need to be decided.
Up to fifteen addition Expansion Modules can be combined with one Basix Module.
Each extension module can be equipped with up to three LTO Tape Drive Modules.
Note: For use of Tape Drive Modules in Extension Modules (ETL) an additional power supply unit is needed. If no Tape Drive Module equipped in the Extension Module there is no need for an power supply build into the Extension Module (ETL).
  • Available LTO Technology Generations:
    LTO-9, LTO-8, LTO-7
  • Available LTO Tape Drive Interface:
For additional tape drives the same interface used in the Basic Module need to be chosen.
The following tape drive interfaces are available:
    - SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) for direct attachment to the server (DAS - Direct-Attached-Storage)
    - FC (FibreChannel) for connection to an existing storage network architetcure (SAN - Storage-Area-Network)

Note:
For use the actiLib Tape Automation products a backup software managing data, tape drives and automation robotics need to be used. actiLib Tape Automation products will be supported by most leading backup software manufacturers.
