Configuration of actiLib Kodiak 6807 Tape Library
The Basic Module (BTL) of the actiLib Kodiak 6807 is first of all a powerful LTO tape library in 6U Rackmount design, equipped with 80 LTO slots in two magazines. The Basic Module (BTL) must be equipped with at least one, maximum of six LTO tape drive modules. In order to expand the basic module, up to six expansion modules (ETL) can then be connected, which can be equipped with or without further LTO drives.
Configuration of the Basic Module (BTL)
Automation robotics are controlled by the first built-in LTO drive, so no additional connection has to be scheduled for this. The choice of LTO drives and their number will determine the configuration of the actiLib Tape Library.
Decisions to configurate the actiLib Kodiak 6807 Basic Module (BTL):
- Number of LTO Tape Drive Modules:
Based on requirements related to capacity and compatibilty the numbers of LTO Tape Drive Modules need to be decided.
- Available LTO Technology Generations:
LTO-6, LTO-7, LTO-8
- Available LTO Tape Drive Interface:
For connection to available server or storage networks the following interfaces are available:
- SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) for direct attachment to the server (DAS - Direct-Attached-Storage)
- FC (FibreChannel) for connection to an existing storage network architecture (SAN - Storage-Area-Network)
Configuration of the Extension Module (ETL)
Automation robotics are controlled by the first built-in LTO drive within the Basic Module (BTL), so no additional connection has to be scheduled for extending the tape library.
Decisions to configurate the actiLib Kodiak 6807 Extension Module (ETL):
- Number of LTO Tape Drive Modules:
Based on requirements related to capacity and compatibilty the numbers of LTO Tape Drive Modules need to be decided.
Up to six addition Expansion Modules can be combined with one Basix Module.
Each extension module can be equipped with up to six LTO Tape Drive Modules.
- Available LTO Technology Generations:
LTO-6, LTO-7, LTO-8
- Available LTO Tape Drive Interface:
For additional tape drives the same interface used in the Basic Module need to be chosen.
The following tape drive interfaces are available:
- SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) for direct attachment to the server (DAS - Direct-Attached-Storage)
- FC (FibreChannel) for connection to an existing storage network architecture (SAN - Storage-Area-Network)
Note:
For use the actiLib Tape Automation products a backup software managing data, tape drives and automation robotics need to be used. actiLib Tape Automation products will be supported by most leading backup software manufacturers.
