LTO-Tape Automation Systems for use with actidata T-Pontis 10GbE-to-SAS in virtual Environment
The use of the iSCSI protocol over 10Gb Ethernet provides a simple and cost-effective solution for managing and operating LTO tape libraries both directly in the data center or in a remotely installed IT rack. The actidata T-Pontis 10GbE iSCSI bridge offers the necessary performance features here. With two 10Gb optical Ethernet interfaces, up to four LTO drives can be operated both from a dedicated backup & archive server as well as virtually from a virtual machine (VM). Thanks to iSCSI, the actidata T-Pontis 1U-Bi operates independently of central operating systems and is controlled directly via an iSCSI initiator.
actidata T-Pontis 1U-LTO with inbuilt LTO-Tape Drive
Especially for the creation of additional data backups in addition to NAS and cloud backups, the use of the actidata T-Pontis 1U-LTO system is recommended. Here, a built-in LTO streamer complements the 10GbE bridge in a 1U rackmount enclosure, which is preferably installed at a remote location (keyword: 2nd fire compartment) and operated via existing Ethernet topologies.
With the actidata T-Pontis 1U-Bi iSCSI bridge, they can be used to operate the tape automation systems like the actiLib product line, among other librray vendors. SAS 12G interfaces can be used to control up to four LTO drives. Ideally, management is done from a virtual machine (VM) in which the backup software is installed.
Simply control and manage an LTO-Tape Drive from a virtual machine. This is easy to implement with the actidata T-Pontis 1U-LTO, because in addition to the 10GbE iSCSI bridge, the needed LTO Drive is already installed.
